Assessments
The introduction of ITIL® into any organisation has potentially significant benefits from a financial, efficiency, effectiveness and competitive perspective. Generally elements of ITIL® exist to a lesser or greater extent in every organisation, but often in a specific area or team of the IS department. To be effective these, processes need to span the whole of IS as well as interfacing into the Business community.
With ITIL® covering ten processes and one function (Service Desk) it is important to obtain a baseline of the maturity of the organisation, from which any improvements that ITIL® provides can be measured.
In addition to the baseline provided by the assessment, the report details recommendations going forward together with the potential benefits. This information provides management with the opportunity to make informed business decisions with regards to the level and priority of investment in specific targeted areas. This ultimately leads to assisting the formulation of a project plan.
As the project progresses further assessments can be undertaken either by discipline(s) or as a full re-assessment to measure the success of the introduction of ITIL® and to establish a new baseline.
The successful introduction of ITIL® into an organisation provides the opportunity to progress further and obtain an internationally recognized standard in Service Management. ISO/IEC 20000, formerly BS 15000, is fundamentally based upon ITIL® best practice, including Business and Supplier Relationship Management, together with Security Management. Including the additional three areas to the existing ITIL® processes will not automatically qualify the organisation to be awarded ISO/IEC 20000. The organisation must demonstrate from a Management perspective the adoption of the processes. As a consequence The Grey Matters are able to offer an ISO/IEC 20000 assessment service, delivering a report detailing areas where improvement is needed and suggestions on how they can be achieved.
The standard has become and continues to be increasingly popular in both the private and public sectors that are requesting Suppliers to demonstrate, as a minimum, alignment to ITIL® and commitment to become and maintain accreditation of ISO/IEC 20000.
